KCSMW 6-A-Side Indoor Box Cricket Rules

Standard cricket rules apply, except for the following special rules. The main umpire has the right to make decisions in case of a conflict. 

 

  1. Each game consists of a six (6) overs inning per team
  2. If the scores are tied, the match will end in a draw.

Players

  1. All players must be of Malayali origin or have a strong connection to Kerala, India, either through ancestral roots, place of birth, or parental origin.
  2. Each team fields six players, with a maximum of 8 on the roster.
  3. A team must have all six players to start and continue the game.
  4. If a team cannot field six players at the start, it will forfeit, and points will be awarded to the opposing team.
  5. If both teams fail to show up with 6 players on time, it will result in a double forfeit, with points shared.
  6. Captains must report the team’s player lineup at the registration table before the game begins.
  7. Umpires can ask a team member to show the ID card and proof of Malayalee origin if needed. So please bring an ID card for all players. 

General Rules

  1. The umpire’s decision is final. Only team captains are permitted to speak with the umpire regarding objections.
  2. No substitutes allowed. Selected playing 6 before a match will be final. 
  3. No runs are scored on a dead ball; the bowler must re-bowl the ball.
  4. Games are played between two teams of six players, each bowling a maximum of six six-ball overs.
  5. There is no LBW, and leg byes are not allowed.
  6. Byes runs are permitted
  7. Umpires would be handling the scoring. Players may use the CricClubs app to track and verify their runs.

 

Batting

  1. Each team has six batters and cannot make substitutions once the game begins, except for a retired hurt.
  2. Retire Out: A batter may choose to retire when the ball is dead, counting as out.
  3. Retired Hurt: A batter who retires due to injury may return to bat as the last batter.
  4. The last batter may continue batting with a runner at the other end once all other batters are out, taking the strike each ball. The innings ends when the sixth wicket falls.
  5. The non-striker may only leave the crease once the ball is bowled. If the bowler stumps the non-striker and they are out of the crease, they are out without warning.
  6. The batter cannot block all three stumps before the ball is bowled.
  7. If a batter switches from left-handed to right-handed (or vice versa), no leg-side wide will be called.
  8. No Free Hit: No free hits are awarded for no-balls.
  9. Under any circumstances, if the ball goes outside the designated playing area (through a door or a broken net) and not through the boundary area, it will be declared one run.

Bowling

  1. Each innings consists of 6 overs.
  2. During the Group stage, only one player per team can bowl two overs, but in the knockout stages, Every player must bowl.
  3. If a player is injured and can not bowl, another player can bowl the last over. The batting team captain can decide the bowler.
  4. A bounce above the batter’s shoulder is a no-ball, with no warning.
  5. If the ball bounces more than once before reaching the crease, it is a no-ball.
  6. Bowlers’ run-ups are restricted to a marked area.
  7. Straight shots can score 4s and 6s, also, there is a designated area behind the keeper where a batsman can score 4s and 6s. All other runs must be completed by running between the wickets.

Fielding

  1. A boundary (four/ six) is declared only if the ball touches the designated boundary wall. A fielder (body) can touch the wall while fielding or taking catches.
  2. If the ball hits the roof obstacles (net), it is still in play; a catch taken after the ball hits the roof is out (excluding side walls and side nets).
  3. If the ball bounces off a side wall, batters may take a run, but no additional runs are awarded for hitting the wall.
  4. Under any circumstances, if the ball hit by the batsman goes outside the designated playing area (through a door or a broken net) and not through the boundary area, it will be declared one run.
  5. The goalpost behind the wicketkeeper will now count as a boundary(4 and 6). If the ball hits outside or above the goalpost, it’s not considered as a boundary.
  6. There is no fielding restrictions for regular overs and power over.

 

Power Over: 

  1. Batting team can and must choose one over as a power over per 6 over inning. 
  2. Batting team has the right to pick the over they want. Bowling team can pick their bowler after the batting team chooses a power over.
  3. Batting team must inform the main umpire about the power over before the first ball is bowled for an over. And cannot change the decision after a delivery is bowled. 
  4. If the batting team don’t pick the power over, the umpire will announce the 6th over as power over.
  5. Each run will be counted twice in the power over
  6. Each dismissal in the power over will attract -3 runs for the batting team. 

Format and Points

  1. The tournament has four groups, each with up to four teams.
  2. Teams in each group will compete against two other teams from their group.
  3. Each winning team will get 3 points per match and 1 point for a tie.
  4. If one team forfeits a match, the other team will get 3 points.
  5. The top two teams in the points table from each group will go to the next round. Teams will be ranked based on the following criteria, in order of precedence:
    • Total Points
    • Net Run Rate (NRR)
    • Head-to-Head Results
    • Total Wins
    • Win Percentage
  1. The group winner will play with the runners-up from another group in the quarterfinals.
  2. Knock-out stages will have a super-over if the match finishes in tie

 

Super Over

  1. Each team bats for one additional over of six balls.The team with the most runs at the end of the over wins.
  2. If the first Super Over is tied, another Super Over is played until a winner is determined
  3. The team that batted second in the original match bats first in the Super Over.
  4. Each team has two wickets to play with. If a team loses both wickets, their innings is over.
