Soccer 5v5 Rules 

Roster:

  • Teams must provide a roster with player names.
  • Each team can have a maximum of 8 players on the roster.
  • During a match, 5 players including a goalkeeper (GK) are only allowed on the field at a time.

 

Team Composition

  • 8 and below. – The team may only include players who are 8 years old or younger. The team can consist of all genders. The team can have a maximum of 2  non-Malayali South Asian  players in the roster.
  • 9 to 11:The team may only include players who are between 9 and 11 years old. The team can consist of all genders. The team can have a maximum of 2 non-Malayali South Asian  players  in the roster.
  • 12 to 14: The team may only include players who are between 12 and 14 years old. The team can consist of all genders. The team can have a maximum of 2 non-Malayali South Asian  players in the roster.
  • 15+: The team may only include players who are 15 years or older. The team can consist of all genders. The team can have a maximum of 1 non-Malayali South Asian player in the roster.
  • 35+: The team may only include players who are 35 years old or older.. The team can consist of all genders. The team can have a maximum of 1 non-Malayali South Asian player in the roster.

 

Field of Play

  • Field Dimensions: The field dimensions are 30 yards wide by 40 yards long.
  • Penalty Area: A rectangular penalty area is defined on the field, measuring 3 yards from each goal post and extending 6 yards into the field.
  • Penalty Mark: The penalty mark is placed 8 yards from the mid-point of the goal line.
  • Substitution Zones: Substitution zones are designated on both sides of the halfway line, each extending 6 yards towards the bench side of the pitch.

 

Substitutions:

  • Unlimited rolling substitutions can take place during stoppages within designated Substitution Zones, subject to the referee’s approval

 

Kick-ins:

  • The ball is kicked into play from the sideline (kick-in) instead of being thrown in.
  • A goal cannot be scored directly from a kick-in.

 

Goal Kick:

  • The goalkeeper rolls the ball into play from within the penalty area.
  • The ball must be played within the team’s own half or touch the ground within their half. In such cases, the opposite team will be awarded a goal kick. The referee’s decision is final
  • The ball must clear the penalty area before an opponent can play it.

 

Penalty Kicks:

  • Penalty kicks are taken from the penalty mark (8 yards from the goal line).
  • All players must be outside the penalty area during a penalty kick.

 

Offside:

  • There is no offside rule in 5v5 soccer.

 

Restart Time Limit:

  • Restarts must take place within 5 seconds; otherwise, possession is awarded to the opposing team.

 

Pass Back to Goalkeeper:

  • The goalkeeper is not allowed to use their hands if the ball is deliberately passed by the teammate.

 

Match Officials:

  • The sole referee oversees the matches.
  • In cases where no specific rule is outlined, FIFA rules will be applicable.
  • In instances of dispute, the referee’s judgment stands as final.

 

Sportsmanship:

  • Respectful behavior towards referees, coaches, players, and spectators is mandatory.
  • Abusive behavior will result in immediate removal from the tournament site.
  • Games begin with the first whistle and end with the game-ending whistle.
  • Teams must be ready to enter the field at least 5 minutes before the scheduled game time.

 

Group Stage Results:

  • Rules to determine position after the group stage is based on the below factors in the order mentioned:
  • 1. Points
  • 2. Goal differential
  • 3. Goals scored
  • 4. Head-to-head results
  • 5. Goals against
  • 6. Fair play
  • 7. Coin toss

 

Point System:

  • Win: 3 points
  • Draw: 1 point

 

35+ – Semi-Final and Final Matches:

  • Semi-final matchups are based on the points table:
  • 1st position vs. 4th position
  • 2nd position vs. 3rd position
  • Winners of the semi-finals will advance to the final

 

Other Categories- Final Matches:

  • The top two teams from the group stage, determined by points, will advance to the final

 

Penalty Shootout Rules for Semi-Final and Final Matches:

In the event of a tie at the end of regulation time in the semi-final and final matches:

  • Initial Round:
  • Each team selects 3 players for penalty kicks.
  • The team with the most goals after 3 kicks wins.
  • If still tied, proceed to sudden death.
  • Sudden Death Round:
  • The teams engage in alternating penalty kicks using their remaining players.
  • Once all the remaining players have completed their kicks, the shootout reverts to its initial order for all players.
  • The first team to score and prevent the other from scoring wins.
  • This continues until a winner is determined.
